Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable treatment made with botulinum toxin. When injected directly into a muscle, Botox temporarily paralyzes it, causing the skin on top of it to gradually relax. The muscle can no longer contract, which prevents the skin from wrinkling any further, as well.

What can Botox treat?

Because Botox works by temporarily reducing movement in the muscle it’s injected into, ReviveMD uses it to treat dynamic wrinkles, which form through repeated muscle movement. Botox cannot reduce wrinkles that form due to volume loss — fillers are ideal for them.

Botox may be the right non-surgical treatment if you have:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Furrowed brows
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Smile lines
  • Frown lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Marionette lines

Botox can also improve facial symmetry and can help reshape your eyebrows. If you have fine lines and wrinkles but aren’t ready for a more invasive treatment, such as a face-lift, Botox can relax your lines without drastically changing your appearance.

What happens during Botox?

At your initial consultation, the ReviveMD team evaluates your face to determine the best areas to inject Botox. This visit is the perfect time to talk to the team about your goals and any concerns you have regarding the treatment.

The next step is your injection appointment. When you arrive, the team applies an anesthetic to help you feel as comfortable as possible. They then inject the treatment into your muscle to relax your wrinkle.

What happens after Botox injections?

You shouldn’t rub your face for at least 24 hours to prevent the treatment from spreading to other areas of your face. Most people begin to see results of Botox within the first three days of treatment, but you notice your best results over the coming weeks.

Botox typically lasts for about 3-6 months before gradually wearing off. Since it’s a minimally invasive treatment, you can return to ReviveMD for maintenance treatments to maintain your results.

Does Botox have side effects?

Minor swelling, redness, and bruising are normal side effects of Botox that should subside within the first couple of days after your treatment. If you experience additional symptoms, such as muscle weakness, droopy eyelids, or vision problems, you should contact ReviveMD right away.

If you think Botox is right for you, call ReviveMD, or schedule an appointment online today.
